Atlantic Steam Cylinder Engine Oils

Gear and Cylinder Oils

ATLANTIC STEAM CYLINDER ENGINE OILS are extra high performance high viscosity oils designed for use in enclosed worm gears operating at moderate to high speeds and temperatures, and where heavy loads, slow speeds or high temperatures demand high viscosity oils. They are also intended for use in all steam engine applications. They are formulated from high quality base stocks that are resistant to oxidation and thermal degradation, and the build-up of harmful deposits caused by the high operating temperatures of steam cylinders. They protect against rust and corrosion and provide good film strength and excellent lubricity and they are resistant to water washout.

Applications

ATLANTIC STEAM CYLINDER ENGINE OILS are designed specifically for the following applications:

Steam Cylinder Oil 355: Steam cylinders, couplings, bearings, and break-in of compressor cylinders.

Splash lubrication of enclosed worm gears operating at moderate to high speeds and temperatures.

Steam Cylinder Oil 460&680: Recommended for the above applications but under higher temperature and load conditions

Steam Cylinder Oil 1000-1500: Suitable to be used as a tempering oil for bath temperatures up to 290⁰C & also where ready separation from condensate is essential, e.g. where exhaust steam is used for process work.

Properties

ATLANTIC STEAM CYLINDER ENGINE OILS are formulated using appropriate additives to enhance their frictional and load-carrying properties & can be applied both by drip feed cups and force feed mechanical lubricating devices.

Performance Features And Benefits

  • Excellent equipment protection at high temperatures occasioned by variable load conditions, avoiding unexpected downtime and equipment replacement.
  • Excellent film integrity at high temperatures.
  • Very good water separation in absence of additives.
  • High quality and built in performance features.
  • Excellent resistance to deposit formation at high temperatures.
  • Provision of good sealing film round rods and in glands in steam applications.
  • Excellent anti-wear and low friction properties.
  • Results in fewer unplanned stoppages and reduced maintenance costs.
  • Extended oil life due to inherent oxidation stability.
